This investigation analyses the narration of a murder in the house of the mayor of Cieza in the time of the “Sexenio Democrático”, during the reign of Amadeo de Saboya, in ‘El Imparcial’ and ‘La Época’. The objective is to extract the style traits in the writing and the contextual factors of one of the first crimes reported in the press, in a period of increasing expansion of journalistic activity, following the quantitative and qualitative methodologies of media and communication research. The use of explanatory words and qualifiers, literary resources and the use of correspondents and informative notes, in addition to technical advances, formed the original characteristics of the news of events.
