The flood of San Policarpo on January 26, 1626 has been the greatest natural catastrophe suffered by Salamanca, both for the number of deaths and for the material damage caused by this flood of the Tormes River. The media impact of the event had a great repercussion, since the news, published in the most primitive precedent of the press, the reports of events, spread very quickly at a local and regional level and at a national and international level. And it is these accounts of the event, written circumstantially by university students and that the author has managed to gather twenty-eight in number, the object of this monograph. Comprised of the study and the complete text of the same, it describes its main formal and typographical characteristics, as well as its authors, receivers, censors and printers, while analyzing the implicit ideological message, the natural and supernatural causes of the flood, the calamities that occurred and the institutional and personal reactions to the tragedy, ending with the miraculous rescue of an image of the Virgen del Rosario from the waters of the Tormes.
