E-BORESU nº 7

The Gaçeta of Gerónimo Gascón de Torquemada is an indicator of the massive and multifaceted flow of information of Madrid and sourroundings since the XVII Century. The current text approaches the strategies and instruments that the author implemented, in order to have a wider knowledge of this flow within Madrid’s watchtower and compose this work, as well as the perspective about the oversea’s areas of the Hispanic Monarchy. The view transmitted by Gascón de Torquemada is constructed, in this case, as an opened window to the imaginary and mental prospects of the author, but also of those of his contemporaries, especially the elites, on territories with a crucial significance for the Crown during the Six-hundred. All of that, in a time characterized by the onset of the public sphere development.
