The aim of this work is to study the representation of women in contraposition to men in fifteen Spanish accounts of events in verse (16th-18th centuries). Following a brief state of the art about the studies carried out so far based on the female figure in the accounts of events, the female portrait will be analyzed from a lexical viewpoint, in opposition to the male figure. The testimonies gathered will reflect the most bitter and sordid portrait of the female nature, according to the beliefs of the time. Nevertheless, sometimes the weight of evidence can surprise both the audience and the readers with a favorable and even positive portrait of women, compared with men, who are not always as well portrayed as it could be expected.
