The edition of a series of gazettes entitled Gaceta de Roma is presented, eleven numbers recovered so far, published in Valencia by Felipe Mey between 1618 and 1620, with different titles but clearly all of them the result of the same editorial strategy that the periodical press prefigures. This edition aims to contribute to the study of the history of the origins of newspapers and journalism in Spain.

The Gaceta de Roma is important because, up to the moment of its appearance, the majority production of Spanish printers consisted of news publications of an individual type, either reports of events (usually of a single event), or miscellaneous publications, with more than one event for each print but which did not constitute an indefinite series, much less a regularly published newspaper. The qualitative leap is therefore very important.
