This paper aims to contribute to the knowledge of what was known in Spain about America and the Americans, in the Early Modern period. We have analyzed the news pamphlets printed in Spain between 1618 and 1635, to track the American appearances in the news; our hypothesis is that these first Spanish newspapers were exclusively interested in the American territories to the extent that they conditioned geopolitical interests of the Crown. As a secondary objective, we have analyzed the ethnonyms with which were named the different ethnic groups that populated America.
