The present study associates the celebratory sceno- graphy with the eulogy sermons given in Castile on the beatification of Teresa de Jesús in 1614, based on two collections: the Compendio de las solemnes fiestas by Brother Diego de San José (1615) and the Sermones Predicados ordered by Brother José de Jesús María, general of the collection, published the same year. In addition, we utilize Manuel de los Ríos’ independent account of the festivities in Valladolid which includes sermons and poetry. The sacred prayer explains the glorious mysteries of the chosen virgin, while the scenography of the churches and cloisters provides an environment for the orator and the pragmatics of their address. Both aspects are intertwined into one spectacle of light and word, a vivid metaphor for the spirituality of the Blessed.
