The aim of this collective volume is to go through the ephemeral life of this type of literature, addressing the entire process, that is, from its production and distribution to its reception. In this way, it aims to analyze the two sides of the same coin: firstly, how the tastes of society condition the contents and forms; secondly, how printers (in their role as publishers) adapt the sheets from a material perspective in order to secure buyers. Thus, the work is divided into two distinct parts: the first, devoted to the study of the life of the pliego de cordel; and the second, focused on specific case studies of specific literary subgenres.
